Marvelman Finds Top Gear In Park Stakes

From Big Brain Center

Oisin Murphy continued his hot streak as he steered Marvelman to an extensive win in the Betfred Park Stakes at Doncaster.

The jockey notched up 4 winners on Town Moor on Friday and had actually currently struck gold in the opening handicap on Leger day before including another triumph aboard Andrew Balding's 13-2 shot.

Marvelman made smooth progress to grab the lead from pacesetter Quinault with 2 furlongs to run, before relieving away to win by three and three-quarter lengths in the Group Two heat.

King's Gamble took 2nd with Audience third, but Group One-winning 5-4 Of Light never appeared like getting included, pulling hard early before discovering little when the pace stepped up.

Balding said: "He's really discovered his stimulate of late and was outstanding today.

"He's usually very constant and never ever dissatisfies, apart from when we actually fancied him in the Jersey at Royal Ascot - his owners came over from Australia to view him that day, too!

"The owners have been really patient and it's settled today.

"He's run some excellent races on fast ground, but he's managed that little bit of cut extremely well today."

On plans, he included: "We'll probably head to the Challenge Stakes at Newmarket with a penalty"

Murphy, well on his way to being champion jockey once again, said: "His work has gone to a brand-new level in recent weeks because Newbury and we believed he 'd be fine on that ground.

"We got a great tow into it and he struck the line well.

"We went a nice even speed, not flat to the boards like Quinault in some cases can do, as this ground can be exhausting and I realised early it might take a bit of getting, however he powered clear for pressure."
